The on-field thrills and dugout fun continued for families all around town as the SYAC Girls Softball's spring 2008 season completed its fourth week.
SYAC has 36 softball teams competing this spring in four age divisions, ranging from kindergarten through eighth grade.
In addition to its regular program, SYAC has four travel teams in league play in the softball division of the NJBL. On Sunday, May 18, the Storm, a U10 squad, traveled to Holbrook to play the Ronkonkoma Cardinals. The Thunder, a U12 team, played a doubleheader against the Franklin Square Fury at Syosset-Woodbury Park. Across town at H.B. Thompson's Longo Field, the U14 Xtreme played two against the Long Island Hurricanes Orange team. The Syosset Hurricanes, another U10 squad, have completed their season.
Tryouts for travel teams for the summer and for the next school year will be held in early June. For more information: www.syacgs.org.

Mallilo and Grossman got into the win column with an all-round team effort that led to a 19-7 victory over the Fuoco Group on May 19. Sydney Rosenblum pitched two strong innings and singled twice. Lauren Riegel had three hits (one double) and four RBIs. She also made three putouts at first to close out the sixth inning. Maddy Sanchez had five singles, three RBIs and was great at shortstop. Casey Konsky was the hitting star with two titanic homers and six RBIs. Casey also was strong in the infield and pitched an inning. Sydni Grossman had two singles, an RBI and caught two innings. Carlie Golden had two singles, a double and a triple, and she closed out the final inning. Irvind Buttar had two singles and two RBIs. Paige Mandel singled and played a solid second base. Bailey Donovan hit a single and a triple. The heavy hitting contributed to a breakout 9-run fourth inning.
Fuoco Group hung tough and fought back. Katherine Alejo had a big triple. Brianna Palumbo also tripled Emily Rockitter reached base twice. Rosaleen Faggiano had a big single, walked and played a solid infield. Cynthia Cherian had two RBIs, a single and a walk. The big hit for Fuoco was a two-run homer by Alli Honingstock.
