Opinion

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Jericho community for braving the rain and cold on Tuesday and coming out to vote. While the school district budget passed by a smaller margin than we would have liked, we take note of the message in that vote, along with the comments that voters shared with the Board and Administration. We understand that you appreciate the excellent education afforded to Jericho students, but that the cost of living here is high and the school district must be mindful that expenses must be kept in check. As we review Newsday's preliminary list of budget results across Long Island and see that budgets failed by as few as 3 or 5 votes, we are reminded that every vote is important and we appreciate the efforts of every resident who voted.

While the School Board candidates ran unopposed, we were both incumbents and appreciate your vote of support for us. We encourage you to attend and participate in our monthly Board meetings, as well as next year's budget workshops. These are always open to the public and listed on the school district calendar and website. In addition, you are always welcome to email comments to the Board at BOE@JerichoSchools.org.
