Jericho School District voters passed the proposed 2008-2009 budget on Tuesday, May 20 with 652 yes votes and 433 no votes. Two current members of the Board of Education ran unopposed this year. Barbara Krieger received 817 votes and Claire Hochheiser received 722 votes.

"Thank you to those members of the Jericho school community who braved the cold rain on Tuesday and came out to vote," said Jericho Superintendent of Schools Hank Grishman. "We are keenly aware that although residents appreciate the excellent education provided to our students, the school district must be cognizant of the current financial challenges and all expenditures must be thoroughly reviewed. The Board of Education and district staff will continue their joint efforts to balance our outstanding educational program with fiscal responsibility."

The Jericho Public Library passed and Gloria Jacobson and Stanley Garfunkel were elected to the board of trustees.

The Syosset School District's budget passed with 2,186 voting in favor and 1,441 voting against a budget of $176,400,840, a 6.49 percent increase over the current budget.

The Syosset Library budget passed and library trustee Lorraine Trachtman was re-elected.
