During the first several days of April, both the Syosset Fire Department (SFD) and its six individual companies held their annual elections of officers. The results of these elections were presented and approved at the April 9th meeting of the Board of Fire Commissioners of the Syosset Fire District.

Chief Thomas Feeney and his staff of Assistant Chiefs were each re-elected for a second one-year term. Chief Feeney is responsible for all operational and administrative aspects of the operations of the SFD. His Assistant Chiefs support him with these duties and operate in his stead at fires and emergencies, when necessary. The SFD also held elections for its administrative officers.

The SFD's six companies each held elections for line officers - company captains and lieutenants - as well as company administrative officers. The company officers oversee the day-to-day operations of their respective units during and between emergency alarms.

"On behalf of the residents of Syosset and Woodbury, I congratulate the newest members of our officers' corps and look forward to working with them and all the rest of the officers to protect the people and property of the greater Syosset-Woodbury community," said Chief Feeney.

The officers will hold their positions for the next year, after which they can be nominated and elected for further terms. They will be sworn in at the Department's an inaugural ceremony in May.
