William Doyle, a senior at Syosset High School, has earned a Long Island Arts Alliance (LIAA) Scholar-Artist Award for his exceptional work in the fine arts department. This prestigious award recognizes artistically accomplished Long Island high school students each month, September through June, as a way to advocate for Islandwide arts education. This is the first year of the award; Doyle is the second Syosset student to be honored.

Doyle has excelled in Syosset's music programs as a drum major in the marching band, playing French horn with the wind ensemble and orchestra, playing trumpet in the jazz ensemble and singing in the male a capella ensemble. He regularly participates in various musical organizations on Long Island, including the Nassau-Suffolk Wind Symphony and the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra.

Previously, Doyle has played with the Long Island Youth Orchestra and participated in the 2007 American Music Abroad Empire Tour. He was also selected as a finalist in the United States Army Band "Pershing's Own" concerto competition and the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition.

In addition to his success in fine arts, Doyle takes numerous Advanced Placement courses and has an academic average of 99.5 percent. He has won awards at various Model United Nations conferences and was named an Intel Science Talent Search Semifinalist for his research in macroeconomics.

LIAA Scholar-Artists are selected from a pool of students nominated by each of Long Island's public school districts, and from independent and parochial schools. From these nominees, Scholar-Artist selection committees, consisting of Long Island arts leaders and school officials, choose one monthly award winner from Nassau County and one from Suffolk County.
