Local Muttontown resident Jim Green recently completed his third International Ironman Triathlon in Zurich, Switzerland.

"Zurich was the most difficult Ironman Triathlon I have done," Green said. "The swim started out fast - 2,400 athletes go into the water at the same time to swim 2.4 miles. I swam a competitive 1:08 next to the winners, 55 minutes. Next came the 112-miles bike portion of the race. It was really hard. There were 20 miles of climbing from base elevation going up almost 9,000 feet."

After that was the 26.2-mile run on a relatively flat course. "More than the physical challenge is the mental challenge," said Green. "You must be both mentally and physically to be an Ironman. I have now completed Ironman Thiathlons all over the world and currently I am training for Ironman France. Special thanks to my kids for the understanding and, of course, to Donna Conway for all of the support and help."
