The Joseph J. Gorman Council Knights of Columbus of Syosset will again be sponsoring a basketball free-throw shooting contest at the local level of competition for the year 2008. The date will be Sunday, Jan. 27. It will be held at Saint Edward's the Confessor R.C. Church's Gym. Registration begins at 4 p.m.
All boys and girls from 10 to 14 years old before Jan. 1, 2008 are invited to participate. All participants will receive a certificate and the first 50 children will receive a special Knights of Columbus patch. The Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship is sponsored annually with winners progressing through local, district, regional and state competitions.
The K of C international headquarters based on scores from the state-level competitions announces international champions. All boys and girls 10 to 14 years who are eligible can participate and compete in their respective age divisions with awards given to first-place winners for girls and boys in their age group. Last year, more than 179,000 sharpshooters participated in over 3,000 local competitions. In the past years children from our council's competition have advanced to the state finals at West Point Military Academy. Since its beginning, over 2.5 million youths have participated in the annual competition. The Joseph J. Gorman Council encourages all eligible children to come and give it your best shot.
