Off Duty Syosset Firefighters Team Up to Save Home
In addition to being volunteer firefighters with the Syosset Fire Department (SFD), Peter Kahl and Jack Randazzo both work locally on behalf of their community - Kahl for the Jericho Water District and Randazzo for the Syosset Fire District. On Saturday afternoon, Aug. 12, Kahl and Randazzo had both recently arrived at their Clearview Village homes from work and each was settling in for what they thought would be a quiet afternoon around the house. Little did they know that in a matter of minutes, they would come together to save a neighbor's home from being completely destroyed by a fast moving kitchen fire.

Supervisor Venditto: School Is Open - Drive Safely
Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto issued his annual advisory to drivers to be extra cautious once school is open. With Jericho set to open its doors to students on September 5 and Syosset School District starting on September 6, the new school year is upon us.

Syosset Basketball League Announces Registration
The Syosset Basketball League recently announced registration for the 2006-2007 season. All boys, grades 3-12, and girls (grades 3-8) interested in playing basketball in the intramural program and travel leagues, need to register at the HBT Middle School cafeteria on Saturday, Sept. 9 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. or on Tuesday, Sept. 12 from 7 - 9:30 p.m. Boys in grades 3-6 and all girls should wear sneakers and shorts and be prepared for an evaluation tryout. Potential coaches are invited to watch. Coaches and sponsors are needed.

Syosset Braves Named Nassau County Varsity Baseball Champs
The Syosset Braves Varsity Baseball team defeated the Baldwin Royals in the championship playoff game on Sunday, August 13 to become the 2006 Nassau County Varsity Champs. Entering the final playoff round Syosset's record was 4 wins, 1 loss. Baldwin was undefeated. Syosset needed to win the doubleheader playoff against Baldwin to earn the title.
