Hilari Cohen and Ira Checkla did not seek re-election this year for Jericho's board of education and when the two new board members, Shawn Gladstone and Mark Basile are sworn in next month, Cohen and Checkla's terms as school board members will be over, but their dedication to the school district and the community will live on. Commissioner Giovanni Graceffa, the newly elected chairman of the board of fire commissioners of the Syosset Fire District, announced this week that Frank Vasile has been appointed to the board of fire commissioners. Commissioner Vasile was chosen by the Board to fill the vacancy created by the departure of Commissioner and previous Board Chairman Ronald Geraci, who has accepted a full-time position on the District's staff. On August 6 and 13, Josh Cohen, a Jericho resident and third-grade teacher in the community, is going to run the ninth annual 3-on-3 Long Island Neighborhood Basketball Classic. This annual double-elimination basketball event is in memory of Jill Adlman, who passed away of a brain tumor at the young age of 15. Jill's parents, Bonnie and Fred, are long time residents of Jericho, and have been actively involved with the Children's Brain Tumor Foundation since its inception. FULL STORY
