The Syosset Chamber of Commerce convened its monthly evening meeting at La Viola restaurant in downtown Syosset last week. The 80 attendees included local Town of Oyster Bay and Nassau County representatives.

Syosset Fire Department Dedicates Apparatus to Members Who Have Answered Their Final Alarms
On Saturday, Sept. 17, the officers and members of the Syosset Fire Department's (SFD) Hook & Ladder Company held dedication ceremonies for their fleet of emergency response apparatus, including the brand new, state-of-the-art Pierce heavy rescue truck, unit 588. They also dedicated their 2001 American-La France 93-foot Tower Ladder truck, unit 582. The dedication ceremony and a traditional fire service 'wet-down' were held at the SFD's Headquarters on Cold Spring Road.

Bad Start to New Campaign
It's difficult to describe what being overmatched feels like. A player may believe that the team is keeping pace with its opponent, while in reality the opponent is doing nothing but pulling away. This must have been how the players on the Syosset Braves Varsity football team felt during their season opener last Saturday. The 30-0 loss to the visiting Uniondale Knights exposed a lot of the same weaknesses that plagued the Braves during last years 2-6 season.

Jericho Sharpshooters Win First League Game
The Jericho Sharpshooters' first league game was played on Saturday, Sept. 10. The Sharpshooters played the Manhasset Force at the soccer park fields in Plainview.
