Jericho's Historic Malcolm House

The Nassau Conservancy, a non-profit organization whose mission is to restore the historic buildings and grounds around Nassau County, will open the doors to the Historic Malcolm House, located on Jericho Preserve, for a historic show house retrospective. The house will feature the work of 16 local Long Island designers, who worked together to rebuild Nassau's past through the renovation of one of Long Island's oldest and most historic show house. The historic show house was created under the supervision of Nassau County's Historic Site Supervisor, Harrison Hunt.

The 16 local interior and exterior designers chose one room or area of the house to refurbish and renovate. The designers had six weeks to restore the home and refurbish it with an 18th and 19th century English feel with modern day updates. Event participants include veteran and well known designers such as Claudia Dowling of Claudia Dowling Interiors, Peter Charles of Peter Charles Associates, Steven Hass of Architectural Kitchens and Baths and Jane Grucci of Jane Grucci Interior Designs, as well as up and coming designers Gia Albergo of Gia Albergo Interiors, Giovanni Naso and Brian Oper of Giovanni Naso Designs and newcomer faux artist, Debbie Viola. Other notable designers include, Regina Kraft of Regina Kraft Interiors, Kate Singer of Kate Singer Home, and Lesley Graham of Lesley Graham Designs. Renovating the grounds of the property are Long Island's own Susan Giordano of Susan Giordano Landscape Designs of Sea Cliff and Old Mill Nurseries of Bellmore.

This 18th and 19th century home will have a restored appearance while including modern-day technologies, such as the refurbished kitchen by Steven Hass, which will be complete with a dual fuel stove and dishwasher while still creating a 19th century feel with Shaker cabinetry. The house will present Nassau County's history through its décor, with additions like a painted mural in the front hall, courtesy of Dan Del Orfano, depicting the area in the 1800s, complete with Malcolm House's historic neighbor, the Maine Maid Inn (formally the Valentine Hicks House).

The designer showcase will run from Sept. 9 to Nov. 12. The house will be open to visitors between 10:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m Tuesday through Friday, as well as Monday, October 10, (Columbus Day). The House will also be open on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cost is $35 per person, which includes admission to the showcase and lunch at the historic Maine Maid Inn, (complete with choice of entrée, soft drink, dessert and coffee). There will also be a VIP preview party on Sept. 9. For more information on Malcolm House or to purchase tickets for the preview party, please contact the Nassau Conservancy at 571-7631 or Malcolm House directly at 571-7064. Tickets for the historic show house are available for purchase at Malcolm House during business hours.
