The Spring lacrosse season ended on Sunday, June 5th as the Jericho third and fourth-grade lacrosse team played their final game at home against Hewlett. It was a very hot day, but lucky for Jericho, they had plenty of fresh legs well into the fourth quarter. Even in the heat of the fourth quarter, the players could be seen on the sidelines tugging on the shirts of the coaches asking "Coach, can I go back in now?"

That has been the story of the season for this great bunch of players, they never quit and they always want more. The children and the parents are all so excited about the Jericho lacrosse program. On this hot spring day, the third and fourth-graders had some additional events to look forward to after the game as the team celebrated its end of season with a barbecue. There was also plenty more lacrosse to watch as the Jericho fifth and sixth-grade teams played a home game against Plainview, and then the Long Island Storm played a scrimmage against another select team. It was an exciting day for Jericho lacrosse.

The game against Hewlett started with the Hewlett team committing several penalties in the first quarter allowing Jericho to play in multiple man-up (extra player) situations. One of the very encouraging notes for this game was that all of the Jericho goals for this game came from shots fired by the third graders. About half way through the first period, as Jericho was playing in a man-up situation, Ryan Corcoran spun past his defender and fired a shot into the Hewlett net for the first goal of the game. Two minutes later, Harrison Seideman dodged past his defender on the left side of the goal, which drew another defenseman to play against him. Harrison then looped a pass up to Reed Ginsberg who placed a shot into the net for goal number two. With just twenty seconds left in the first quarter, Jacob Rosenthal made a great pass to Jack Roberts who shot in goal number three. Jack was able to get open many times on this day and found the opposing goalie's best friend many times, the cross bar and side posts. Jack hit four of them on the day as he was firing shots from all over. Sam Fatehi was also able to get a couple of shots towards the goal, but they both went just wide.

On the opening face-off of the second period, David Greenbaum won the draw, sprinted down the field past the Hewlett defense and shot one past the Hewlett goaltender. A few minutes later Jack Roberts came around the back of the goal to find Ryan Corcoran open on the left side. Jack passed to Ryan and Ryan placed his second goal of the game into the net. Josh Solomon got a shot off after he forced his way through to the front of the net, but his shot went wide. The big story for Jericho this season has been the outstanding defensive play. Zach Wachtel, Chandler Kirby, Tyler Amodio, Mikey Schumer, Eric Kang, and Braham Fathehi owned their half of the lacrosse field all season long. Eric and Brahm split the goaltending responsibilities this season and the others pushed opponents out of the Jericho crease and away from the goal. Without these tough guys, it would have been a much different season for the offense. The defense gave the ball back to the offense all year long.

In the third period, the heat was on, and Jericho did not find the Hewlett goal at all. But in the fourth period, Drew Schuman showed his fresh, strong legs as he scooted past three defenders and bounced a shot in the Hewlett goal for his first goal of the season. Harrison Seideman kept scooping up ground balls and firing shots and then he scored one on a nice shot from the right side. Jonathan Amodio won his first face-off of the season and carried the ball down into the offensive end of the field. Jericho won this game by a final score of seven to two, and finished their Spring season with a record of seven wins and one loss.

The week before Jericho played in the seventh annual Michael Eichenbaum tournament hosted by Plainview. The tournament was played on Saturday, May 28, of Memorial Day. Leading the scoring in this tournament were Steven Fletcher, Jack Barnett, and Jacob Rosenthal. There was great defense as usual from Chandler, Mikey, Braham, and Eric. The attack was lead by Andrew Fox, Cory Cacciola, Chase Landow, and Danny Marshall. Noah Starr made great plays all day long as he floated between midfield and attack. Jericho won all of it's three regular tournament matches against Long Beach, Seaford, and Half Hollow Hills East, before running out of gas in the final against Cold Spring Harbor.

Thanks to all of the children, the parents, and the coaches who have done an outstanding job in shaping this program into a first class organization. See you in the fall for more fun.
