Syosset residents came out in great numbers on Tuesday and supported both the school district and library budgets.
The school district's budget was passed with 3,487 voting in favor and 2,731 voting against it. The number of residents voting for the budget this year was up almost 2,000 compared to last year.
"The Syosset Board of Education and administration wish to thank the community for their strong support of our school district," said Superintendent of Syosset School Dr. Carole Hankin. "We look forward to another year of providing the students of Syosset with an outstanding education."
There were three open seats on the Syosset Board of Education since Anthony Alizzi, Maria Anderson and Ellen Meller were not seeking re-election. Fern Resnick, April Neuendorf and Michael Cohen were elected by residents to serve on the school board.
The Syosset Library budget passed with 3,409 voting in favor and 2,452 voting against it. Jane Evans defeated incumbent Henry Yen in the race for the library's board of trustees.
"We are very happy with the results and grateful to the community for coming out in large numbers to state their choice," said Judy Lockman, director of the Syosset Public Library. "It was a resounding yes and our budget was approved by a wide margin. We take this as a vote of confidence. We work hard for the community and we feel that the residents are saying 'good job and keep up the good work.' We are very happy."
