Jericho residents approved this year's budget with 1,471 voting in favor and 826 voting against it. The $83,334,146 budget represents a 7.45 percent increase over last year's budgeted expenditures.

"The district appreciates the overwhelming support in passing our budget this year," said Superintendent Hank Grishman. "Members of the community, PTA organizations and local civic associations went to extraordinary efforts to become more informed about our budget process. Based on that knowledge, I believe that residents were more comfortable in supporting the budget. The community finance forums throughout the fall gave us the opportunity to hear from the public what their concerns and issues were related to the school district's finances. The board of education and this administration listened to the community and developed the budget based on that input. We look forward to continuing budget discussions in open public forums in the fall."

Incumbent Barbara Krieger and Claire Hochheiser were both elected to the school board defeating opponents Jesse Bachrach, Saundra Gumerove-Bernstein and Jack Feldman.

"I want to thank the community for voting and supporting the budget and I appreciate their support based on my six-years on the job," said Barbara Krieger. "I look forward to continuing to work for the community."

One of the issues discussed during the candidates' campaign was the lack of voter turnout during past elections. This year there was an increase by almost 1,000 voters voting on the budget compared to last year's numbers.

The Jericho Public Library budget also passed with 1,622 residents voting yes and 626 voting no. David Diamond, running unopposed, received 1,058 votes and was elected to the library's board of trustees.

"I was very gratified to see the number of people who voted in the library election," said John Bosco, director of the Jericho Public Library. "Thank you to everyone who voted. The official percentage of yes votes was 72.2 percent. Thank you for your generous support of the library."
