Nassau County Presiding Officer Judy Jacobs (D-Woodbury) named Laura Schultz one of 17 honorees recently recognized for their accomplishments at the Nassau County Legislature's "Women: Trailblazers of the New Millennium" awards. The Nassau County Legislature's Women Trailblazers awards ceremony highlights and recognizes the extraordinary work of women throughout the county.

A community leader since the dawn of the New Millennium awakened in her a desire to give back to her Syosset community, according to Jacobs.

Schultz is Vice-President of Residents for a More Beautiful Syosset and works for pedestrian and traffic safety, beautification, and downtown revitalization. Schultz is a member of the Town of Oyster Bay Steering Committee for the Redevelopment of Syosset Hamlet, the Jericho-Syosset-Woodbury Child Care Partnership, and Friends of the Syosset Public Library.

A former middle school teacher of mathematics in the Elwood School District, she received her Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics degree and her Masters of Science in Secondary Education degree from St. John's University.

She and her husband, Dr. Robert Schultz, have been residents of Syosset for 28 years and they are proud parents of Karen, John and Kevin.

Schultz now joins Lorraine Donlon, Recording Secretary for Residents for a More Beautiful Syosset who received the County's 2002 Trailblazer Award, as the second board member from that group to be honored with this prestigious designation.
