I recently read an article that was in the Syosset-Jericho Tribune regarding Nassau County Legislator Judy Jacobs being honored at the Hi Hello dinner. When reflecting on all that Judy has done for the community, I thought of some other things that should be mentioned regarding all of the work that Judy has done.
When the Children's Center at Family Court was being reorganized and re-opened 10 years ago, Judy was a driving force. She helped negotiate the county and state agencies involved including the move to larger quarters. The donation of her personal rocking chair still soothes many children.
Her other magnificent contribution to the community is being a founder of the Jericho-Syosset-Woodbury Child Care Partnership in 1955. In this role, she has helped us fulfill a goal of reaching out to the community through more than 40,000 surveys to assess the need for child care in the Jericho, Syosset and Woodbury areas.
Additional areas of accomplishment from 1997 included working with Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor John Venditto to modify zoning laws allowing more child care facilities to apply and to navigate a faster application process and again working with Venditto to alter the entrance/exit pattern of Kiddie Academy on Ira Road to ensure safety for children and families.
It has been an honor and privilege to work with this remarkable woman. She has strength, warmth, dignity and compassion for all.
