First Lieutenant Matthew Lynch, a 25-year-old Jericho resident and 1997 graduate of Jericho High School, was killed in action in Iraq near a rebel stronghold in Ramadi on Oct. 31. Lt. Lynch was a Marine and served with the 1st Marine Division, 1 Marine Expeditionary Force based at Camp Pendleton, California.

While a student at Jericho High School, Lynch was a member of the swim team and also was the catcher for Jericho High School's baseball team. He attended Duke University after graduating from Jericho in 1997.

He is survived by parents Bill and Angie Lynch as well as brother Tim, who graduated from Jericho in 1995 and was also a Marine, as well as many other family members and friends.

Funeral arrangements have been made at Wagner Vernon C. Funeral Home, located at 125 W. Old Country Road in Hicksville. The wake will be held Sunday, Nov. 7 from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 8 at St. Paul's.
