Voters Return Incumbents to Office
Residents headed to the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 2, Election Day 2004, to vote for their candidates of choice. As in 2000, the Presidential race was not decided when most residents went to bed Tuesday night. Rather, at approximately 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Senator John Kerry made the phone call to President George W. Bush conceding victory. Election numbers on the Presidential race were still not final at press time although it is certain that Bush did win.
Jericho Native and Marine Killed in Iraq
First Lieutenant Matthew Lynch, a 25-year-old Jericho resident and 1997 graduate of Jericho High School, was killed in action in Iraq near a rebel stronghold in Ramadi on Oct. 31. Lt. Lynch was a Marine and served with the 1st Marine Division, 1 Marine Expeditionary Force based at Camp Pendleton, California.
Syosset Midget White Football Has First Victory
The Syosset Midget White Football Team cruised to its first victory over Lindenhurst on Sunday, Oct. 10, at Syosset High School. The final score was 20-7. It was a whole team effort, said Head Coach Craig Falk. The offense was led by the passing of Sean Lohan and the running of Angelo Galasso and Joe Morris. They were led by the offensive line featuring Matt Goldstein, Stephen Ferrindino and Samm Falk. The defensive unit was led by Rich Lizza at defensive end, Quincy Bollaci and Ryan Erichson at outside linebacker as well as Jake Kinzelberg.
Syosset Braves Cheerleading Reaches New Heights
The Syosset Braves PeeWee Red Cheerleading Squad reached a new goal last Sunday. The girls performed a full body lift for the first time during their half time show. The squad is made up of Kelly Terjesen, Samantha Molloy, Casey Powers, Gigi Ericson, Ariel Leder, Nicole Rapfogel, Brandi Kobren, Jordyn Boscia, Danielle Schimel, Jane Magid and Nicole Drayzen.
