Syosset Baseball Association's 9-Year-Old Division throughout the summer participated in the Glen Cove tournament, comprised of 16 teams throughout Long Island and Queens region.
While the summer travel program was going on, Syosset participated in this tournament in addition to the team's regularly scheduled games. Under co-managers Dennis Kehne, Frank Laine and Chris Burrei, the team finished the tournament in first place with a record of six wins, one loss.
Syosset needed a win in their last game against Plainedge to capture this first-place finish. With this placement, the playoff picture gave Syosset a first round bye, setting up a semi-final game versus either Merrick or College Point, which has a national ranking. Due to the summer rains, the season's playoff schedule lasted into the last week of August, ending with College Point defeating Syosset. College Point went on to defeat Merrick to capture the tournament's championship.
Syosset, with their game versus College Point and placement in the tournament, captured third place and received their third-place trophies following their game versus College Point.
The team provided a tremendous amount of excitement and energy for the group during the year with a balanced attack of pitching, hitting and fielding from all players, culminating in the first-place finish for the tournament in their division.
