Jericho Superintendent Serves as Panelist in State Comptroller's Teleconference
State Comptroller Alan Hevesi recently proposed a series of new financial controls on school districts following scandals in the Roslyn and William Floyd districts. A Five Point Plan, parts of which need to be approved by the legislature, was presented to the public in Albany on Tuesday, October 26. Recommendations include enhancing effectiveness of external audits, requiring school district audit committees, requiring a competitive RFP process to select auditors, mandating an internal audit function within each school district, and requiring training for all newly elected school board members on their financial oversight responsibilities. Hevesi prepared the proposals with input from several school associations, local authorities, accountants and state education officials.

Jericho Jay Sox Win Championship
On Oct. 24, the Jericho Jay Sox took the field at the Jackson Elementary School, needing to sweep a doubleheader against the Long Island Astros, to become the champions of the NJBL 12-year-old-75 Foot Base Division. The Sox, behind great pitching and an all out offensive assault, took both games, 6-2 and 14-3, to earn the crown.

Syosset Baseball Association's 9-Year-Old Division throughout the summer participated in the Glen Cove tournament, comprised of 16 teams throughout Long Island and Queens region.
