Jericho Fire Department Dedicates New Truck
On Sunday, the Jericho Fire Department held a dedication ceremony for their new fleet - Engine and Ladder #1 dedicated a new Pierce 95 Mid Ship Power Ladder #941. Members of the Jericho Fire Department held a traditional christening for the truck called a "wet down ceremony" behind headquarters in Jericho.

Coschignano Conducts Walking Tour of Downtown Syosset
Oyster Bay Town Councilman Chris J. Coschignano recently conducted a walking tour of downtown Syosset with members of the Syosset Chamber of Commerce and the North Syosset Civic Association in order to address concerns regarding illegal parking at the train station and other important issues. This was done in an effort to improve parking conditions in the downtown area.

News from the Syosset Basketball League
The Syosset Basketball League recently announced registration for the 2003-2004 season. All boys (Grades 3-12) and girls (Grades 3-8) interested in playing basketball in the intramural and travel leagues (tryouts TBA) must register in person at the Thompson Middle School Cafeteria on Sat. Sept. 6, from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. or on Wed. Sept. 10 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Boys in grades 3-6 must have rating evaluation at time of registration. Bring sneakers. Potential coaches are invited to watch. Volunteer coaches and sponsors are also needed.

Kobak Wins Spot in US Open Jr. Tennis Championships
Fifteen-year-old Elizabeth Kobak, a sophomore at Jericho High School, will make her US Open tennis debut this week, when she competes in the main draw of the US Open Junior Tennis Championships. Kobak recently captured her first gold ball on Aug. 10, when she won the most prestigious event held each year on the USTA Junior Tournament schedule. For winning the championships, Kobak earned a wild card into the 2003 US Open Junior Championships, beginning Aug. 31.
