A celebration was held last week to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of the Adult Day Health Services at United Presbyterian Residence Center for Health and Rehabilitation in Woodbury.

Adult Day Health Services is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of clients, their families and caregivers. Operated at UPR's eight-acre campus in Woodbury, this program offers social enrichment and comprehensive medical and health services to those who prefer to live in the community and maintain their independence.
Designed to meet the needs of chronically ill, frail elderly and disabled adults, ADHS provides primary, preventative, diagnostic, therapeutic, rehabilitative and palliative services. All of the participants' needs are assessed and met through a personalized plan of care that is developed and carried out by a team of medical professionals including the participant's personal physician.
The Adult Day Health Services is a unit dedicated to only Adult Day Programs. It is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. There is a physician on site, a high staff-to-client ratio for greater individual attention, individualized health/medical regimens based on need, ability and interest, as well as monthly and bi-monthly field trips and weekly social events.
Arts and crafts, games, music, entertainment and socialization are stressed at UPR. There are also support group meetings for families, caregivers and friends.
The licensed professional nursing staff provides a full range of services including administration and /or monitoring of medication; management of diabetic health care needs and insulin administration tube feeding, colostomy care, wound care, suctioning, and tracheotomy care are all available as well as assistance with personal care. Additional services include a social workers for care management and coordination of services, prescribed physical, occupational and speech therapies as needed and dental, podiatry, opthalmology, audiology and mental health professional and religious services weekly.
Nassau County Presiding Officer Judy Jacobs (D-Woodbury) presented a citation to Patricia Murray, Director of the Adult Day Health Services at the United Presbyterian Residence (UPR) in Woodbury during the 10-year anniversary celebration. Jacobs was in attendance as she was invited to be the guest speaker for the UPR Day Care Center's 10th anniversary celebration. Jacobs spoke about her own mother and how in a time of crisis it's wonderful to have a place like UPR to provide a recreational facility meeting the needs of the patient and their family.
