The Jericho lacrosse teams have closed out their spring season game schedules and both teams, the 3rd and 4th grade as well as the 5th and 6th grade teams, finished the season on winning streaks, winning their last five games.
The 5th and 6th grade team completed their last two games of the season against Levittown and Plainview. The Levittown game was played on Tuesday night June 3 at the Jericho High School. Daniel Benisatto had two goals and the entire defense was phenomenal only letting the Levittown offense to get off seven shots the entire game. Jericho won the game seven to zero and recorded their only shutout of the season.
The final game of the season for both of the Jericho teams was played at Plainview on Sunday, June 8. This was a great finishing match. The 3rd and 4th grade team played first. Jake Solomon energized the attack and Jordan Brett dug out many ground balls at midfield. Jesse Chazen had another great game and the defense was superb. The Jericho 3rd and 4th grade team won the game by a score of six to five and finished the season with a record of five wins, one loss, and one tie.
The 5th and 6th grade team played next, and Michael Solomon had a strong game, scoring one goal on a great play taking the ball from one end of the field to the other and beating the Plainview goaltender. Although Plainview scored first, the Jericho team battled back with four straight goals. Harry Hahn and Pody Uppal also had a solid game playing on the same midfield. Marshall Hochauser had his best defensive performance of the season, clogging the lanes and stopping the Plainview attack. Ben Ehrlich also showed his versatility by stepping into the goal in the fourth period and holding on to the lead for Jericho as they won the game six to four. The 5th and 6th grade team finished the season with a record of five wins, two losses, and one tie.
The Jericho Lacrosse Club finished the season with a fun-filled end of season picnic, which also included an exhibition match of the players versus coaches and parents. All of the parents and children commented how much they enjoyed this season and look forward to next year. One parent commented that they had only one problem with this lacrosse season. The parent said that watching this action packed sport being played and enjoyed so much by the children made him angry that he did not play lacrosse when he was a child.
The Jericho Lacrosse Club would like to thank all of the players, coaches, parents, for allowing us to do what we love, and making this 2003 season a huge success. Additional opportunities to learn and play the hottest sport in Jericho and on Long Island will be announced at the beginning of the school season in September 2003.
Jericho is also pleased to announce that one of their own, 7th grade defenseman, Harry Anscher, made the all Long Island U-13 Select team to represent Long Island in national tournaments being held this summer. Harry will be our second player in two years to make this team a long with Alex Jacobs, a soon to be 10th grader at Jericho High School.
