The Library's bond issue for renovation/expansion was passed with 2,439 votes and 1,972 no votes.

"We thank the voters of Syosset and Woodbury for their support and we are committed to improving and expanding library services," said Library Director Judy Lockman.

The building expansion provides for a 50 percent increase in shelf space and triple the space for DVDs, CDs and videos. A new second floor is dedicated and designed to be a comprehensive reference and research center with books, computers, printers and photocopy machines.

The construction is not expected to upset the operation of the library and the library's collections will remain intact throughout the project.

Pre-construction meetings are starting this week and, according to Lockman, library officials are hoping to break ground by next summer. Information regarding the library's expansion and renovation will be posted in the Syosset-Jericho Tribune.

The Syosset Public Library's budget was also passed on Tuesday night when 2,717 Syosset and Woodbury residents voted to approve the budget and 1,716 voted against it.
