Persistent spring rains kept baseball diamonds strangely empty over the past week, but a few games were played in between the raindrops.

Chicklets and Marc Pharmaceuticals Tie 20-20

The Chicklets and Marc Pharmaceuticals battled to a 20 -20 tie on a chilly evening. It was a fun game with both teams making good plays. The Chicklets held Marc Parmaceuticals from scoring in the fifth inning to keep the game tied. Cassey Betancourt hit a home run for the Chicklets.

Marc Pharmaceuticals battled back from an early six-run defecit to take the lead at 20-13 after four full innings. Chicklets scored seven in the top of the fifth and held Marc Pharmaceuticals scoreless in the bottom of the fifth to preserve the tie. For Marc Pharmaceuticals, Angela Balkunis, Victoria Gee, Jessica Raphaelson, Carly Saunders, Connor Bird and Erika Moran each had three hits. Jamie Cohen, Julia Matlin and Meghan Chin each had two hits. Meghan Chin delivered a big hit to drive in two runs and give Marc Pharmaceuticals their first lead of the night.

Smith Barney Lightning Edges Falco's Pizza 8-7

Smith Barney Lightning enjoyed its first win, with an 8-7 victory over Falco's Pizza. The Lightning's starting pitcher, Sophie Walcoe, held back Falco's big hitters during the first three innings. Relief pitcher Ariella Gomolin put the hammer down on any hopes of a comeback in the bottom of the sixth. Honorable mentions to Ali Cohen at shortstop for a great stop in the sixth, Sophie Mummert for her instinctive coverage at second, and Allison Logan at first, who remained focused to close out the Falco's during last licks. Big bats during the game included Samantha Ender, Jennifer Ziplow and Chelsey Rosen.
