Nassau County Presiding Officer Judy Jacobs (D-Woodbury) announced this week that she has secured the long sought after traffic signal for Jackson Avenue, at Tiebrook Avenue, for Syosset residents. Jacobs had advocated for this traffic signal for years to alleviate the safety concerns for residents.

The signal will affect northbound and southbound traffic on Jackson Avenue, between Jericho Turnpike and Convent Road. According to Jacobs, she has been informed by the Nassau County Department of Public Works that the light will be installed soon.

"We are initiating the design of the traffic signal and will proceed with the installation as soon as our workload permits," Public Works Commissioner Peter J. Gerbasi told Jacobs. "We trust this installation of the traffic signal will address the concerns of your constituents and provide for their safety."

Legislator Brian Muellers (D-Locust Valley), the Chairman of the Legislative Public Works Committee, joined Jacobs in praising the decision.

"The Department of Public Works has responded to a definite safety need for the community," Muellers said.

Jacobs pointed out that there are many benefits to be derived from the new signal, such as better vehicular control and pedestrian safety.

Legislator Jacobs praised the efforts of Residents for a More Beautiful Syosset and the Syosset Chamber of Commerce and thanked the two very active associations for their support throughout the long battle to get the traffic light installed.
