Every once in a while, there's an event that gives us a taste of what small-town life must have once been like here in Jericho. The high school's homecoming parade and carnival and the Jericho Athletic Association's baseball parade and annual picnic are good examples of events that bring out our community spirit.
On May 17, another such event will debut at Jericho High School- Relay for Life. Reminiscent of an all-night camp activity or a spirited slumber party, this event will bring the community together in an overnight celebration of life, while at the same time raising funds for a worthy cause.
The school track will be surrounded by luminary candles bearing the names of both survivors and victims of cancer. Teams of walkers will circle the track throughout the night in an effort to raise awareness and funds for cancer research. Activities and entertainment are planned to keep up the spirit right through until the closing ceremony Sunday morning.
The Birchwood Civic Association recently announced its intention to enter a team and has challenged other organizations to do the same. What will your organization, club, tennis friends, or mah jong group be doing the night of May 17th? Join us! For information on how to register a team, follow the link at www.bestschools.org.
