Jericho High School students Andrew Chang, Nikhil Gupta, Jeremy Price, Anh Pham, and Andrew Song were recently named finalists at The Long Island Science and Engineering Fair.
Now in its 16th year, The Long Island Science and Engineering Fair is considered an annual showcase of the best high school science, math, and engineering projects from Long Island. This year, over 430 students from 59 different high schools on Long Island presented 393 projects on February 25 at Round I of the Fair.
Round II of the Long Island Science and Engineering Fair was held on March 19 at the Crest Hollow Country Club. Over 100 professional scientists from Long Island and New York Universities, National Laboratories, University Hospital Labs, Research Institute Labs private laboratories and private industry judged the top 25 percent of students who advanced from Round I of the Competition. For each category grouping, students were awarded Honorable Mention, third place, second place, and first place Prizes.
A variety of local awards were also given. Andrew Chang earned the first place award in LISEF Biochemistry and the third place Air Force Prize in Biochemistry, Nikhil Gupta earned an Honorable Mention in Medicine and Health, Jeremy Price earned the 1st Place award in LISEF Biochemistry and the first place Air Force Prize in Biochemistry, Anh Pham received the second place award in LISEF Biochemistry, and Andrew Song was part of the first place LISEF Team and the 1st Place Air Force Prize Team.
Chang, Price, and Song were among the top 16 individual projects and top eight team projects. They have been invited to Cleveland, Ohio May 10-17 to present their research at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair. The Intel ISEF brings together over 1,200 students from 50 states and 40 nations to compete for scholarships, tuition grants, internships, scientific field trips and the grand prize: a trip to attend the Nobel Prize Ceremonies in Stockholm, Sweden.
