The Syosset High School Roller Hockey Club has had to deal with all types of distractions this year. There have been suspension of players, illnesses, conflicts with ice hockey games and the most recent tragedy, the death of Jeff Mosenson, the brother of Jonathan Mosenson, friend to many of the players and the son of coach David Mosenson. It has been an overwhelming burden on everyone involved and to their credit, everyone has responded tremendously.

Coach David Mosenson, his wife, Gayle and their children, Jonathan Joanna and Jenna would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their prayers, concerns and the tremendous outpouring for their tragic loss.

A six-game win streak has helped propel Syosset to the semi-finals of the Islandwide High School Roller Hockey League against Mepham on Friday night, March 28, 8 p.m. at Skate Safe of America. Mepham finished the season with a record of 19 - 1 and their only loss was due to a forfeit. However, the Syosset coaching staff feels confident that if everyone shows up and plays their "A" game, they have a good chance to beat Mepham and advance to the Nassau County finals.

The six-game win streak was a very impressive show of complete domination of their opponents.

This was a game in which Syosset and Herricks were tied at halftime at 2 - 2. The second half, however, was completely controlled by Syosset and it was a game in which many different players scored goals. Scoring was led by Jonathan Mosenson who had only two goals and four assists. Steven Gaon had three goals. Other goals were also scored by Jonathan Fuss, Matt Landsberg and Brian Davis, who also had an assist. This was a game in which Syosset took control from the outset and totally dominated the game which ended with Syosset winning 8 - 0. The game ended early due to the "mercy" rule. Scoring was led by Steven Gaon's three goals and one assist, and Jonathan Mosenson added two goals and two assists. John Fuss added three assists, Andrew Stern had two goals and Brian Davis also had an assist. This was Syosset's real chance to see if they had come together and were ready to possibly challenge for the Nassau County championship. Calhoun was in third place with a record of 14 - 3. Syosset faced the challenge and came away with a dominating 8 - 5 win. Syosset players all contributed to the victory, but a pattern was starting to develop where Jonathan Mosenson, Steven Gaon and Andrew Stern were starting to click offensively and Max Altschuler, Jonathan Fuss, Brian Davis and Danny Kubrick and Louis Judge were starting to play key roles in Syosset's games. Bryan Rubin, the goalie, was starting to round into playoff form. Scoring for this game was again led by Jonathan Mosenson who had three goals and three assists and Steven Gaon who had two goals and an assist. Andrew Stern added two goals and an assist and Brian Davis also had a goal and an assist. This was another game where Syosset totally dominated and the game also ended because of the "mercy" rule. Here again, Steven Gaon and Jonathan Mosenson were the leading scorers. Steven Gaon had three goals and two assists and Jonathan Mosenson had three goals and an assist. Max Altschuler added a goal and two assists and Andrew Stern continued his scoring with a goal and an assist. Bryan Rubin, the goalie, had his second shutout in three games.

The last game of the regular season for Syosset was against Seaford. On a personal note, Steven Gaon and Jonathan Mosenson had the opportunity for some personal league records. Yet, neither one went into the game trying to attain those goals, but merely both were intent on winning the game. Jonathan Mosenson needed eight points to end the season with 80 points and break the league scoring record set by Josh Stein of Wheatley in the 2001 season of 78 points. Steven Gaon needed six points to end up being the third leading scorer in the league this year behind Jonathan Mosenson and Mepham's Mike Saporito.

Jonathan Mosenson got his eight points and broke the league-scoring record. Steven got five points and ended up being tied for third in the league-scoring race.

Jonathan Mosenson led Syosset with three goals and five assists. Steven Gaon had four goals and one assist. Other players who got into the scoring column were: Jonathan Fuss with a goal and an assist, Brian Davis with a goal and Matt Landsberg also had an assist.
