Nassau County Ready for Emergency
"Alert not alarmed" and "prepared not scared" were two of the slogans suggested by Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi at a press conference on Thursday, March 20. Mr. Suozzi called the meeting to announce the county's preparedness efforts now that the country is at war. In a show of solidarity he was joined by Police Commissioner James Lawrence, Director of Emergency Management Richard O'Kane, Commissioner of Health David Ackerman, Legislature Presiding Officer Judy Jacobs, Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray, Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto, North Hempstead Deputy Supervisor Tony D'Urso, Glen Cove Mayor Maryann Holzkamp and several village mayors.

Superintendent Hankin Named Woman of Distinction
The Oyster Bay Town Board hosted its fifth annual Women of Distinction awards ceremony on March 25 prior to the town board meeting. At the ceremony, Dr. Carole G. Hankin, Superintendent of the Syosset Central School District was named a Distinguished Woman in Education.

JAA 5th/6th Grade Girls Basketball
In a see saw battle that could have gone either way, the Cardinal Products Sol defeated the Andrew Marc Monarchs in overtime, 19-17. The game was decided by Alyssa Birbach's basket with 40 seconds left in the first overtime. The Monarchs had a chance to tie but aggressive defense by the Sol along with slick ball-handling by Rachelle Blidner iced the victory.

Syosset High School Roller Hockey Club Wins 6 in a Row
The Syosset High School Roller Hockey Club has had to deal with all types of distractions this year. There have been suspension of players, illnesses, conflicts with ice hockey games and the most recent tragedy, the death of Jeff Mosenson, the brother of Jonathan Mosenson, friend to many of the players and the son of coach David Mosenson. It has been an overwhelming burden on everyone involved and to their credit, everyone has responded tremendously.
