The Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, which evaluates schools in the northeastern region of the US had overwhelming praise and accolades for Syosset High School in their formal report. In part, they wrote:

"Syosset High School both influences and reflects the expectations of the community for an environment in which students can delight in learning and experience world-class education. Student achievement and sophistication are evident everywhere. In every aspect, this school is one of the finest public high schools in the northeast."

In conclusion, they wrote, "The Visiting Team unanimously recognizes Syosset High School as an exemplary 'continuously improving school.' The spirit of creativity directed toward instruction, the commitment to academic excellence and student success shown by the faculty, and the integration of the school with the larger Syosset community make Syosset High School a vibrant and inspiring place for students to grow and learn."

In order to ensure they continue to meet the highest possible educational standards, Syosset High School voluntarily submits to an assessment process that evaluates the school according to the high standards set by Middle States Association. In addition to evaluating all student learning areas the school is assessed in the following: Philosophy and Mission; Governance and Leadership; Organizational Design and Staff; Educational Programs; Learning Media Services and Technology; Student Services; Student Life and Student Activities; Facilities; Health and Safety; Finances; Assessment of Student Learning; and Planning.

The evaluators were especially impressed with the interrelation between the high school and the community at large and what a strong role the high school plays in the lives of its students, faculty and parents. The report stated, "Syosset High School is a unique institution that serves well all members of the school community. There exists a pervasive theme of interconnectedness with the larger surrounding community. Served by an outstanding faculty, all dedicated and knowledgeable, quality interrelationships between students, faculty, and administration combine with the full support of the Syosset-Woodbury community to produce an educational institution nothing less than splendid. As one student leader states, 'Most students count on forming life-influencing relationships during college. We form ours here.' "

"Participation in the Middle States Assessment has been a long-standing practice of the Syosset School District," said Superintendent Dr. Carole G. Hankin. "This year the assessment was a 10-year review. Middle States evaluators will continue to follow up; assessing our performance on a semiannual basis."
