In a truly exciting and hard fought game ,the Goldstein & Avrutine Lynx won a real defensive battle 15 to 14 over the Andrew Marc Monarchs.

The Monarchs took an early lead 8-2 with terrific offensive play by Alison Gluck and Jesica Graf who both finished with 6 points each, but the Lynx played tenacious defense and came back to take a one point lead.

Great defense by Dani Margolies, Jordan Levenstein,Lauren Vallava and Abagail Weinberg, of the Lynx and Carolyn Bordowitz,Chelsea Kutner,Abby Wank,and Pamela Bortnick of the Monarchs made it a lead changing battle.

Melanie Checkla was superb running the Lynx offense while leading them with 6 points despite a badly hurt thumb,Lauren Siegelbaum and Julie Avrutine played tremendously at both ends of the court, scoring 4 points and 2 points respectively.Vanessa Ross hit a key free throw for the Lynx which turned out to be the margin of victory.Bari Herling led the Lynx in rebounds and was a force underneath at both ends of the court.

Julie Gold hit a key basket to give the Monarchs a 14-13 lead until Kimberly Schwarcz hit the winning basket with a beautiful turnaround shot with 1 minute 30 seconds to go.

The Lynx played tremendous defense in the closing moments as a final shot by the Monarchs was waved off as time had run out, preserving the 1st win of the young season for the Lynx, whose last game they had lost by a heartbreaking one basket.
