Syosset opened the season with a convincing 8 - 1 victory over Lynbrook. Steven Gaon led the scoring with four goals, while Jonathan Mosenson added two goals and two assists, and Andrew Stern added to the other two goals. Brian Rubin, Syosset's goalie, played an excellent game and allowed only one goal while facing 22 shots. Lynbrook's lone goal was scored by Max Stern. Syosset's defense was able to hold Lynbrook in check and Syosset's overall team play enabled them to dominate the game.

Lynbrook's coach, Michele Price, explained before the game that a lot of players from last year's playoff team are not playing this year due to graduation or other commitments. She views this as a rebuilding year. Syosset's coach, David Mosenson, views this year as another opportunity for his Syosset team to do well. Almost all of the players from last year's team have returned and are bigger, better and stronger.

Syosset's second game of the season was against Herricks and they won 8 - 0. Syosset simply had too much going for Herricks to keep up. Syosset's scoring was led by Jonathan Mosenson who had two goals and four assists. Andrew Stern had two goals, while Jonathan Fuss, Steven Gaon, Brian Davis and Lewis Judge each had goals to contribute to Syosset's convincing win. Brian Rubin recorded his first shutout of the season by stopping all 15 shots. Herricks was at a disadvantage even before the game started because one of their star players, Evan Kotler, was unable to play. That, coupled with Syosset's overall talent, was just too much for Herricks to overcome.

Syosset's third game of the season proved to be a shocker. Kennedy beat Syosset in a hotly contested game by the score of 5 - 4. Syosset coach David Mosenson said, "I really thought that we had the opportunity to have a remarkable season and maybe go undefeated in league play. Unfortunately, our team didn't play well against Kennedy and frankly, I didn't do a good job of coaching this game. Hopefully we will use this as a learning experience and become a better team because of the loss." John Ahern of Kennedy scored four goals in the first half as Syosset was totally outplayed in all aspects of the game. Down 4 - 2 at the end of the first half, Syosset just couldn't overcome the deficit in the second half.

The first half, Syosset came out very sluggish and was outplayed and dominated by Kennedy on all facts of the game. "They were beating us to the puck, they were much more physical and they just outplayed us in the first half," said Steven Sloan, one of the two Syosset assistant coaches. The other assistant coach is his brother Scott Sloan. There is always the feeling, because of the depth and talent of Syosset's team that we will always somehow find a way to win the game. Unfortunately, on that day, it didn't happen. Even though Syosset turned up the intensity in the second half and was able to close as much as they did, they weren't able to close the gap completely.

Kennedy's goalie Mike Fink, had an exceptional game as he faced with 30 shots; 20 in the second half when he made several game-saving saves. Kennedy's game-winning goal was scored by Max Kohn late in the second half. Syosset's goalie, Brian Rubin, faced 30 shots and had another great game. Even though he allowed five goals, several of them were a result of Syosset defense letting up.

Syosset's scoring was accounted for by Steven Gaon, who had two goals and Jonathan Mosenson who had a goal and two assists. Brian Davis also had a goal that was assisted by Andrew Stern.

Neither team will be able to rest on the results of this game as they face each other in their next league game on Friday night. This should prove to be a real interesting contest as Syosset will come out and try to prove that last week's game was an upset and Kennedy will come out to prove that it was not.
