Combining a balanced offense, big rebounding and great team defense, Syosset's fourth-grade travel basketball team won its first game of the season by beating a tough St. Dominics squad at the Island Garden, by the score of 27-23.

Down early in the game, Syosset fought back and took the lead in a tight game, only to find the game tied at 15-15 in the fourth period. That's when Syosset defenders Scott Eisenberg, Jack Grady, Tommy Costa, Jake Fried and Matthew Ramirez played great team defense and Costa, Grady and Fried combined for 12 points to seal the win. Syosset's " big men" Alex Dochter, Dylan Rainey, Matt Ramirez and Jake Fried, who led the team in rebounds, all rebounded well. Dan Capetta, Corey Altman and Dylan Jaloza played outstanding defense , pressuring St. Dominics into errors, as did Matt Dantona and Scott Schwartz. Tommy Costa led all scorers with 13 points, but it was the seven that he scored in the fourth period, combined with Syosset's intense team defense, that sealed the win.
