Kristen Carton displayed a golden foot, ringing up two goals on a pair of penalty kicks that powered the Syosset Power (U11 girls soccer) over the Plainview Old Bethpage Kickers by a score of 2-1 on Nov. 9.

POB scored first, with a strong attack in the first half that broke through Syosset defenses. Syosset battled back, as a combination of forwards Lily Mummert, Aly Zuckerman, Melanie Woerner and Gina Rutigliano dominated the offense for most of the half. However, with tight defense and powerful punting from the Strikers' goalie, the Power remained down 1-0 at the half.

In the second half, the Syosset Power's steady pressure paid off. A hands call in the box against the Strikers set up a penalty kick for Carton. She laid a strong shot into the corner of the box, past a diving goalie. Moments later, another hands call brought up Carton once more, and she sent the ball high and hard into the net.

Julie Baharestani laid in a third penalty shot with a high arcing shot. The goal was disqualified, however, since the call was for an indirect kick. Syosset goalie Taylor Tully was sparkling in defense, with numerous aggressive plays to scoop up the ball and punt it high and deep

The Syosset Power hung on to close the game with a 2-1 win, getting tight defense from Jenna Chimon, Lauren Quinn, Carton and Baharestani. Syosset also received strength in the midfield from Rachel Franklin, Heidi Smolevitz, Olivia DeLisa and Tina Prestano.
