Syosset Braves first win at home came against a strong Brentwood team. The Braves offense started very strong with quick score and extra point. The defense came on the field, pushes Brentwood back and got two points for a safety catching Brentwood in the end zone. With the ensuing kick and great field position the offense went the distance with a very effective passing game and scored again with the extra point.
Brentwood fought their way back with 18 unanswered points, but the fearless Braves who have been down in the past come back with a decisive ground game eating up the clock and scored the game winning touchdown. The defense again came on the field and held the Brentwood offense as time ran out.
"It was a great game by all the players each and everyone contributed today to make this a team win" said Coach Quinn.
This weeks team captains: Jimmy Doyle, Luke Nawrocki, Robbie Nedbor-Gross, Taliek Vasquez and Jose Lebron.
The Syosset Midget Red went to Seaford on Sunday to take on the Colts and to get back to their winning ways. The Braves did just that with a 12-7 win. The winning drive started at the Seaford 40 after Michael Edelstein recovered a Colts fumble. With just over two minutes remaining in the game the Braves put together their finest drive in four games. Their timing could not have been any better. Joe Gallo and Brenden Kennedy ripped off five and six yards a carry until they were faced with a fourth down and goal from the three with one minute left in the contest. Joe Gallo scored to put the Braves up for good and Syosset won its fifth game of the year. "That last drive was the finest I have seen this team play all year. These kids wanted the win and they worked together as a team to ensure the victory" said coach Avena.
Syosset scored on its first drive with a 65 yard Joe Gallo touchdown run only to be called back on a clipping penalty. Seaford came back to score and the Braves were down 7-0 at the half. Mid way through the third quarter the Braves were backed up to their own 3 yard line. Joe Gallo took the ball and sprinted 97 yards to get Syosset back into the game. Gallo had a 99 yarder in last weeks losing effort as well.
In the last quarter of this game, both offensive and defensive units were outstanding. Hard running by Kennedy, offensive leadership by Dochtor, tough blocking by Ehrens, Paulmbo, Costa, Storrie and Edelstein led the way offensively. Hard hitting by Moore and Mcintyre, a ball ripped away from a ball carrier by Galasso, and gang tackling from all the boys led the way defensively.
Matt Ramirez was outstanding on both sides of the ball today. Defensively he made play after play and while on offense he was put up against their toughest player and won each and every battle. Joe Gallo had some magical runs today too. We saw him sprint end to end, side to side and everywhere in between. The entire team showed the crowd at Seaford as well as themselves what they are made of.
"Our young athletes had the desire and will to fight back an take the victory from the Seaford Colts. Only true desire can overcome temporary defeat and our boys truly had the desire" said Coach Ehrens.
Syosset take on Bethpage this week as they try to earn their sixth victory of the season. If the Braves win their final two games they will make the playoffs for the second season in a row.
The defense set the tone for this game from the opening series. Mike McIlwee stopped the Shamrock runner in the backfield on first and second down for loss of yardage. Third down gave up 8 yards but on fourth and four the Braves defense stopped them short and took over on downs. Offense took the field.
Connor Kennedy ran the ball 30 yards to the 10-yard line. Angelo Galasso took the ball on a sweep to the left and scored. The conversion was missed.
On the Braves second possession Connor Kennedy scored from 45 yards out on a 27 crossbuck. Sean Lohan kicked the conversion for 2 points. Broad channel was unable to move the ball against the Syosset defense. Back on offense the Braves ran the ball up the middle with Sean Lohan and Richie Lizza driving down to the 25 yard line.
Jordan Zeidman got the call on a sweep right and took the ball to the end zone to score. Jake Levine ran the conversion in for the 1 point. Score 21-0 at the half. The Braves got the ball first in the second half and picked up right where they left off driving the ball up the middle with Colin Byrne and Richie Lizza down to the Shamrock 20 yard line.
Ryan Lukacovic got the call on a sweep left and made a nice move to get outside and reach the end zone untouched. Jordan Zeidman ran the conversion in to make the score 28-0. Jake Paston had a beautiful 30 yard touchdown called back on a holding penalty.
The offensive line cannot go unmentioned, these boys are credited with all the yardage the Syosset offense has run up in the last two weeks. Top honors to ends Colin Byrne and Chris Ferolito (who also caught a 15 yard pass and nearly got in for a score), tackles Jon Ivarone and Richie Lizza, guards Sean Lohan and Alex Parlo and center Greg Morley. The Braves defense was awesome right to the end, including all the Braves who played the entire second half on defense and preserved the shut out.
These boys are getting some great experience and improving from game to game - Anthony DiClemente, Jake Levine, Sean Valent, Benny Vasile, Matthew Goldstein, Steven Ferrandino, Joey Morris and Ryan Lukacovic.
The Pee Wee's face their biggest challenge of the season this week going to undefeated North Babylon. The Brave's record stands 5-2-1
