The Syosset Power (U11 girls soccer) and Port Washington battled to a 2-2 tie on Oct. 27. It was the second meeting of these two rivals. Syosset won the first match in September 2-0.
In the first half of the game, Syosset goalie Taylor Tully turned back repeated attacks by Port Washington, with her steady hands and soaring punts. Late in the first half, however, one well-placed kick found its way into the corner of the Syosset net. The score held at 1-0 through the half.
In the second half, the Syosset Power came alive, scoring two goals in rapid succession. Executing a well-oiled passing strategy, Syosset scored as Rachel Franklin crossed to Olivia DeLisa to tie the match. Moments later, Olivia DeLisa led a long drive to the opponent's corner before centering the ball to Tina Prestano, who scored.
Port Washington refused to die. They mounted a series of late attacks, and in one drive broke through the steady Syosset defense of Julie Baharestani, Melanie Woerner and Lauren Quinn to tie the game. At the final whistle, the score stood at 2-2.
Providing an undying attack for Syosset were Lily Mummert, Aly Zuckerman and Heidi Smolevitz. Kristen Carton was solid on strong defensive kicks and throw-ins. Jenna Chimon was especially versatile in providing first, tenacious defense and later bold offense in the midfield position.
