Peewee's are back on a winning track! They beat Lindenhurst green 19-12 in a game that was nowhere close to what the score indicates the braves had their way with the Bulldogs all day. The offensive line consisting of Colin Byrne, Michael Genovese, Alex Parlo, Greg Morley, Sean Lohan, Richie Lizza, and Chris Ferolito did a great job blocking. Running backs Angelo Galasso, Dylan Schwaber and Connor Kennedy reaped the benefits of the line's hard work. Galasso scored the first of his 2 touchdowns on a reverse from 35 yards out made possible on a downfield block by QB Mike McIlwee.
The Syosset defense gave up very little yardage to the Bulldogs. Defensive ends Colin Byrne and Anthony DiClemente played outstanding, closing down the outside for most of the day.
Early in the second quarter, Angelo Galasso broke another reverse for 45 yards to the Bulldog 1 yard line. Deserving the TD after the long run Galasso got the call again on the very next play and took the ball the final 1 yard into the end zone on a 38 sweep. Lindenhurst put together a drive just before halftime and scored to make it 12-6 in favor of the Braves.
Midway through the third quarter the Braves offense mounted a drive, running the ball up the middle with Sean Lohan and Dylan Schawber eating up the clock and keeping possession of the ball. By the start of the fourth quarter the braves had reached the Bulldog 17 yard line. Connor Kennedy got the call on a 32 reverse and on another downfield block by the quarterback Kennedy reached the end zone. The extra point was run in to make the score 19-6.
The Syosset defense took the field to try to hold off the Bulldogs last ditch efforts to score. Matthew Goldstein, Steven Ferrandino, Joey Morris, Jon Ivarone, Jake Levine, Sean Valent, Benny Vasile, Ryan Lukacovic, Jordan Zeidman, and Jake Paston all gave their best efforts and made some terrific tackles as Lindenhurst drove downfield. With just over a minute left in the game the visitors scored to make the final 19-12.
Our younger players really got a chance to gain some on field experience this week and should be very proud of their play. Peewee record now stands 3-1-1. A win on Saturday against a tough Plainedge team is just what the Braves need.
The Syosset Midget Red team football team came to Brentwood on Sunday and expected to notch their fifth consecutive victory. Instead It was Brentwood who earned the victory leaving the Braves to deal with their first loss of the season.
The game was a stalemate early on as both teams stopped the others offense. Then on a 4th down play with ten yards to go, a Brentwood back turned the corner just out of reach of two Braves defenders for a 40-yard score.
"Our boys knew they were in a battle against a powerful team. They hung together as a unit and never gave up. I give them a lot of credit and the coaching staff and I are very proud of them" said Coach Avena.
Brentwood went on to score two more first half touchdowns to make the score 19-0. To Syosset's credit, Brentwood was held scoreless in the second half but the Braves offense could not get going all day.
"I am very proud of all our young athletes. They are true competitors and champions. They are all gifted in a special way" said coach Ehrens.
The Braves will regroup and try again for their 5th victory of the season when they face the Seaford Broncos this Sunday at noon.
The Syosset Pony White lost 22-0 to a well disciplined Levittown Black away under the lights last Friday night in Levittown. White defensive linemen grounded by Andrew Lombardi, Sean Burke, Justin Adelmen, and Joe Portela and put up a good effort but were not able to stop a more powerful Levittown running game. Levittown scored three times during the first half, converting on two kicked extra points.
A blocked punt by "iron man" defensive end Jarad Kuczek sparked some hope for the Braves offense. Led by a key blocking guards, Stephen Bartolomeo and Brendon Banes the Braves offensive attack almost got off the ground spirited by running backs Billy Reggio and Brian Green. The Braves managed to get into the red zone on several occasions. Twice, Mike Napolitano's end around with powerful blocking by end Brian Grany were unsuccessful in getting points on the board.
Outstanding games were played by Nick Sammartano charging into the Levittown backfield along with "bulldog" Mike Romano who made several key tackles. John Beers, Jim Cameron and Brian Gilda, made several shoestring tackles at the last minute also preventing additional touchdowns.
Up and coming rookies Nick Swensen and Anthony Rivelli made key contributions for the defensive secondary.
