The Syosset Midget Red opened their season with a crushing 33 - 12 win at Amityville. Joe Gallo had an outstanding game and led the team with four touchdowns and over 250 rushing yards. Joe is a special athlete who is highly motivated, intelligent and skilled beyond his years. But it was Brendan Kennedy who scored first for Syosset with a 70-yard touchdown run on the second play from scrimmage. Kennedy, who was injured on the play, left the game after his TD run. "Normally when you lose a player of Kennedy's caliber your team will surely suffer," said coach Avena. "Luckily Matt Ramirez was there to take over where he left off last season". Quarterback Alex Dochter led his team with the poise and confidence the coaching staff had hoped for.

The offensive line anchored by veterans Tom Palumbo, Michael Mcintyre and Tom Costa just blew the Amityville Defense off the ball. Two-way starter and one of three tri-captains along with Gallo and Kennedy, Palumbo had a banner day pounding people on offense and crushing people on defense. First year players Robert Storrie, Michael Edlestein, James Carchietta and Michael Moore performed admirably and joined their line mates in overwhelming a big Amity defensive line. Nick Banomi and Tommy Lokacovic held their own at end, a new position for both boys. Newcomer Robert Galligan has been a pleasant surprise for Syosset. "Robert has become one of the most versatile players we have spending time at End, Line and Quarterback on Offense," said Coach.

Five scores and one Joe Gallo TD run, which was called back was more than the Syosset coaching staff could have hoped for. Logan Ehrens chipped in with a solid performance and two extra point runs and Matt Beers played super ball on both sides of the ball. "Beers and Matt Ramirez are special players who have the skills to play both End and Running back, giving the Braves an added extra dimension to their attack," said Coach.

The Syosset defense swarmed all over the Amityville offense limiting them to two scores and no extra points. "We came to win today and left with the victory we deserved," said coach Ehrens. We have many first and second year players who have joined together to form an outstanding unit. The usual players Mcintyre, Palumbo, Gallo, Beers, Ehrens, Costa, Moore and Ramirez had their customary outstanding performances. But it is the newer players like James Carchietta, Brandon Amberger, Sammy Galasso, and Tom Lukacovic who is developing into real players who give Syosset the depth needed to succeed. Veterans Michael Sciroppo, Nick Banomi and Nathaniel Kristel round out the defensive unit and continue to make plays, which help the team win.

Next up for the Braves is Copiague at home at noon. Come cheer the team on as they go for victory number two.

Syosset Peewee White took on Bethpage Grey and the game ended in a 6-6 tie. Syosset played tough defense all day. Connor Kennedy scored the only Braves touchdown while Angelo Galasso had a long touchdown run called back on a holding penalty. Pony Red lost to Levittown White in a tough 37-25 battle. Gary Weinstein scored four touchdowns while first year player Kenny Barry did a great job leading the offense as quarterback. Matt Stock and Paul Alessandri did an outstanding job at defense. Despite being a relatively inexperienced team with only 15 players, everyone did a great job going up against a very strong and experienced team. Our team was in the game all the way

Senior division football players, who have practiced very hard since August 1 came up with a very large win Saturday night against the Broad Channel Shamrocks and won 20 to 6.

This total team effort began with Mike DeRosa at the helm of the offense. Excellent running and pass plays from Jose and Gabby Lebron, Taliek Vasqueze, and PJ Nunez. Up front blocking from Sean Baynes, Steve Santa, Dennis Freund, Danny Rocco, Brian Lupo, Luke Nawrocki and twin tower ends Brian & Danny Nickels. The defense also played an excellent game holding the Shamrocks to only 6 points which was achieved in the forth quarter with only about 1 minute and 20 seconds left in the game, after the touchdown the Braves defense also blocked the extra point kick. Defense and Special Teams led by Danny Rocco, Mike Quinn, JD (Jimmy Doyle), Robbie Nedbor-Gross, Sean Baynes and new acquisition Randy Davis. Also a great job from the second team offense & defense of Kevin Gusz, Matt Leone, Colin Frank and Gurjap Singh. This past week's team Captains: Michael Quinn, Sean Baynes , Michael DeRosa and Jose Lebron.
