Syosset Junior Trying to Promote Little Known Sport
Roller hockey, often called the sport of the future, is still in its infancy. Although it is being played at the college level at more than 300 colleges and universities, it is not yet an inter-collegiate sport and the individual colleges don't finance them. Those involved with the sport are hoping for more exposure and hoping that roller hockey will be a sport in the 2008 Olympics.
Syosset Flames Take Second Place
During Labor Day weekend, the Syosset Flames finished the Oceanside Tournament with a second place finish. The Flames were undefeated, they scored 10 goals and only let up two goals. The Flames played three shut-out games. They handily beat the team that came in first place. Even though they have done well in regular league play, they have not had a first or second place finish in a tournament in two years. A big hearty welcome to Andy, Brian and Matthew. It is great to have you and your parents on the team.
Syosset Braves Start Football Season
The Syosset Midget Red opened their season with a crushing 33 - 12 win at Amityville. Joe Gallo had an outstanding game and led the team with four touchdowns and over 250 rushing yards. Joe is a special athlete who is highly motivated, intelligent and skilled beyond his years. But it was Brendan Kennedy who scored first for Syosset with a 70-yard touchdown run on the second play from scrimmage. Kennedy, who was injured on the play, left the game after his TD run. "Normally when you lose a player of Kennedy's caliber your team will surely suffer," said coach Avena. "Luckily Matt Ramirez was there to take over where he left off last season". Quarterback Alex Dochter led his team with the poise and confidence the coaching staff had hoped for.
