The Lorand Landscaping girls ended their regular season with a two game win streak courtesy of a strange game played at the start of the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
The Lorand girls came out swinging in their half of the first inning and never looked back. After some sparkling defensive play in the top of the first, Toni Catapano got the bottom of the inning started with an infield hit. Michelle Cunningham followed with a solid shot that left runners at the corners. Emily Wolvovsky knocked Catapano in with a single then Katie O'Brien pushed Wolvovsky across the plate with a solid double. It was three up, three down for the JMB Architecture girls in the top of the second. In the bottom of the second, Amanda Glassman worked out a lead walk. Amy Levine followed with a walk of her own and Toni Catapano advanced the runner to second and third on a bouncer back to the JMB pitcher. With runners on second and third and one out, Carissa Antine delivered a clutch single to score Glassman. After some fine hitting by Michelle Cunningham, Emily Wolvovsky and Katie O'Brien, the Lorand girls found themselves ahead by a comfortable 5 run margin at the end of two innings.
JMB mounted a threat in the top of the third, but solid defensive play by O'Brien at short and Cunningham at third and Wolvovsky at pitcher short circuited the rally after two runs had scored. In the bottom of the third, Lorand looked like it was ready to put the game out of reach after a lead off single by Risa Vecker, a single by Jillian Rubin, then a solid shot by Amanda Glassman that the JMB shortstop fielded beautifully to get Vecker at third. Tubin scored on a fielder's choice by Toni Catapano, but the threat ended with only one run scored in the inning.
Two solid singles by Sophie Mummert and Gabby Lundy led to two runs scored for JMB. Just as the game seemed to tighten up, Lorand took control in their half of the fourth inning breaking out for a total of eight more runs on hits by Rubin, Glassman, Catapano, Antine Cunningham, Wolvovsky, O'Brien, Lindsay Pasternack and Risa Vecker. The fifth inning was the last of the game. The Lorand girls took any doubt about the outcome right out of question with some sparkling defensive plays by O'Brien, Catapano and Wolvovsky to set JMB down in order.

Today I had a softball game against one of the hardest teams around. It was a close game but my team was in the lead. Finally, it was the last inning and my team was up to bat. If we get three outs, my team wins and.... we won! It felt like I was the happiest kid in the world.
