Syosset resident Lenore Sylvan and Woodbury resident Sharon Sabba Fierstein were named "Women of Distinction" and honored by the Town of Oyster Bay at their March 19 meeting in town hall.

Jericho Man Arrested in Nationwide Child Porn Sting Operation
A Jericho resident is among seven Long Islanders recently arrested as a result of a nationwide child pornography sting operation dubbed "Operation Candyman." The year-long sweep has already netted over 85 arrests throughout the United States and FBI ( Federal Bureau of Investigation) officials say more are expected in coming months.

Celtics Basketball Team Finish Successful Campaign
On Sunday the 10-year-old Celtics finished up their 2002 intramural basketball season with a thrilling victory over the Raptors. It was a seesaw battle that saw both teams tough it out until the final period. If it weren't for the emerging presence of both Andrew Becker (sweet shot) and Brandon Li, the games high scorer, the game would have been lost. This victory gave the team from Jericho an impressive record for the year. After losing the opening game the Celtics lost only one game for the remainder of the season.

Jericho Students Organize Walk-A-Thon Set for April 14
Tracy Sweetbaum, a 12-year-old resident of Jericho, wanted to do something to help Little Shelter, a "no kill" animal shelter located in Huntington, which was in danger of closing its doors after 75 years of finding homes for thousands of dogs and cats.
