The Syosset Braves started their preseason schedule on Thursday night with a loss against Bethpage. Following their loss to Bethpage, Syosset won their next game with a momentous victory over Kellenberg.
The Braves have the experience and the youth to have a successful season, with six seniors and six juniors. Led by their senior captain Jason Parasco, Syosset has the ingredients to be a contender for the playoffs.
Forwards Chris Hassel and John Park plan to dominate the boards against their opponents with the help of their center, Brian Liebman. Hassel has played incredible defense in the past two games and the Braves are going to need his size to keep their goals in reach. Park has not been challenged in his first two exhibition games and has showed his coach that he can be a defensive and offensive threat with his aggressive game-play. Liebman has been a dominator under the boards with double-digit points and rebounds in each of Syosset's first two games. Guards Stu Coleman and John Parasco add flavor to Syosset's starting lineup with Coleman's height and agility, and Parasco's speed and awareness. Coleman has the ability to shoot the ball from anywhere on the court and is Syosset's main threat. Opposing defenses will have their work cut out for them if they don't play a strong, well-fought game against the Braves this season.
Syosset also consists of guards Ross Kandell, Frank Bossio, Andrew Hovance and Danny Loftus. Forwards Seran Ozcan, Ryan Krochak and Adam Stein add the power and aggressiveness needed off the bench. Coach Strohmayer and the Braves have the tools to be successful this year and are planning to make the playoffs as a top-seeded team.
