Jericho's homecoming is an annual fall event that is enjoyed by students, parents, staff and community members. This year, the parade/walk-a-thon will be used to support World Trade Center disaster victims, their families and rescue teams.
The theme for this year's parade, which was selected in the spring, is very appropriately entitled "Patriotic Moments in American History." The parade/Walk-A-Thon, which takes place on Saturday, Oct. 27, begins at noon. Marchers will line up in the Waldbaums shopping center parking lot on Broadway beginning at 10:30 - 11 a.m. Parade participants may leave their cars at the high school and take buses to the start of the parade route. The parade ends at the middle/high school complex.
Two years ago, the homecoming parade evolved into an annual districtwide walk-a-thon. The high school student council, under the direction of advisor Larry Anderson, will donate the money they raise this year to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. The student council, which began collecting money for the Red Cross in the days immediately following Sept. 11, have decided to continue their fund-raising efforts during homecoming.
Student council is currently preparing sponsor sheets and donation envelopes that will be distributed to all children in the district. For further information, please call 681-4100, ext. 224.
