On three Saturday mornings in January, about 70 Jericho first-and second-graders participated in an instructional basketball clinic at the Cantiague Elementary School. The boys and girls had fun learning the fundamentals of playing basketball.

Also the young players enjoyed learning to dribble with their left hand as well as their right hand while keeping their head up to see the basketball court. The children particularly had fun with a dribbling game called "survivor" where, within a confined area, they had to continue dribbling and protecting their ball as they tried to knock or deflect another player's ball out of bounds. The children also began to pick up the fine art of passing working on chest and bounce passes.

Each session ended with some enthusiastic team shooting drills. At the end of the final session each player received their own basketball. A special thanks goes to the Jericho Athletic Association for making possible the opportunity for these eager and bright players to have fun learning the game of basketball.
