Mildred Bilfield, a cherished and active resident of Syosset for over 40 years, passed away at Delray Memorial Hospital in Delray Beach, FL, on Nov. 25, 2000. She was 78 years old and had resided in Boynton Beach for five years.

The widow of Dr. Leonard Bilfield, DDS, who died in October 1999, Mildred was an enthusiastic and active member of the Palm Beach County Democratic Party and enjoyed bridge, current events and water aerobics during the years she was retired in Florida. She was a graduate of Hunter College with a degree in economics and did post-graduate work toward a masters in education at C.W. Post.

Syosset residents will remember Mildred as one of the founders of the North Shore Synagogue, an active member of PTA and the leading exponent in the 1970s campaign to institute language studies in Syosset elementary schools. She was a avid lover of 20th Century music and a vibrant member of the communities of Syosset and Boynton Beach who will be missed by her family and friends. She is survived by three children and their spouses, Jennifer Bilfield-Friedman of Manhattan, Eddi (Ethel) Van Auken of Danville, CA and Mark Bilfield of Beverly Hills, CA; and three grandchildren, Wendy Van Auken, Matthew Bilfield and Hallie Friedman.

Father of Maxine (Ken) Cunningham, Richard (Linda) Rohr and Karl Rohr. Grandfather of Deborah, Michael and Amy Cunningham. Brother of the late Frieda Peterson.
