On Oct. 14 the Mill Neck Manor foursome accepts a donation from Helkowski, who organized the Ernest R. Seifert Memorial Golf Outing at May's Landing Golf Course in Atlantic City, to support Mill Neck Manor School for the Deaf.

The charity golf event benefits Mill Neck Manor and The Valerie Fund Children Centers, located in New Jersey, which help children with cancer and blood disorders. This was the first year Mill Neck Manor was a designated charity for the Memorial Golf Outing. In an invitation letter to participants, tournament director and philanthropist Duane Helkowski of Syosset mentioned that his son has a partial loss of hearing in one year, so Mill Neck Manor, as a charity, is "especially important" to him.

At the outing, Mill Neck Manor was represented by the foursome of High School Principal and honorary member of the Seifert Memorial Golf Outing Committee, Dennis Tobin, Mill Neck Manor alumni Paul Sauerland, John Ward and Philip Aronson. The foursome finished tied for second place, winning Jets and Islanders tickets.

In total, the charity event raised roughly over $20,000 through lead sponsor, BNP-Paribas, hole sponsors and other contributors. More than half the money raised went to Mill Neck Manor and the other half went to The Valerie Fund. The tournament was created six years ago. Many of the participants knew and were friends of Ernest Seifert, as well as friends of Helkowski.
