The Highway Patrol Bureau reported a serious vehicular accident which occurred in Jericho on Friday, Oct. 13.

The Amboy Bus Company was transporting 25 children along with 25 chaperones on a field trip to go pumpkin picking. The bus was traveling eastbound on the Long Island Expressway just west of Jericho Turnpike when it was involved in a vehicle accident with a truck that had stopped short to avoid hitting a disabled vehicle in the right-hand lane. Sergeant Leo Brandino, along with Police Officers Doug Pappas, James Sisti and Steven Omeis of the Highway Patrol Bureau, responded to the scene.

One of the parents, a woman from Brooklyn, suffered serious head trauma and her three-year-old son suffered a knee injury and another three-year-old suffered a bruised forehead and was transported to Nassau County Medical Center by Jericho Fire Department. As a precaution, officers at the scene had the other children transported to Nassau County Medical Center where they were examined by doctors. The staff at Nassau County Medical Center generously provided the disappointed children with lunch and dinner, an array of stuffed animals, coloring books and pumpkins to make up for the missed field trip.
