Cerro Wire Property Continues to Cause Controversy
A petition drive launched by a coalition of more than 20 organizations representing 25,000 homeowners has resulted in over 4,000 signatures gathered in opposition to the proposed mega-mall on the former Cerro Wire property. A package containing all 4,274 original signatures was recently mailed to Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor John Venditto's office.
Pataki Signs Pesticide Notification Bill
For seven years, environmentalists have lobbied the state Legislature to pass a law requiring pesticide applicators to notify their clients' neighbors prior to using high-pressure sprayers to apply pest treatments. Their efforts were realized at a press conference held earlier this week.
Fall PAL Roller Hockey Registration
North Shore PAL Roller Hockey Registration Hockey Registration is open to all boys and girls who are ages five through 17 as of Dec. 1 1999. Registration will be will be held on Sept. 11, Sept. 12, and Sept. 14 at the North Shore High School Room A4 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. A "last chance" registration will be held at the brand new Tappan Beach rink facility from 9 a.m. until noon on Sept. 16. All registrants must know how to skate adequately on in-line skates (including goalies). Teams will be formed on a first-come, first-served basis. The league will start the last weekend in Sept. and will conclude prior to Thanksgiving. Cost is $70 for children ages eight and under, $80 for children ages nine and over. All participants receive a team jersey and a medal. Coaches will be on hand at each registration session to answer any questions you may have about the league.
Reminder: Jericho Youth Football League Tryouts
Mandatory tryouts for children between the ages of 7and 12 to participate in the Jericho Youth Football League will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 29 at Jackson Elementary School from 5:45 to 7:30 p.m. There will be another tryout schedule during the first week the children return to school. The exact date and time will be announced.
