Syosset Resident Honored as Woman of Distinction
Peggy Sue Vickers, a resident of Syosset, was recently named a Woman of Distinction and honored by the Town of Oyster Bay for her years of dedicated volunteer work. Town Supervisor John Venditto awarded Vickers a commemorative pin made only for recipients of the "Woman of Distinction" Award and James Stephanich, Town of Oyster Bay's receiver of taxes, presented Vickers with a town citation.
Lightpath Long Island Classic Opens in Jericho
The Lightpath Long Island Classic, a senior PGA Tour golf event, opened its gates at the Meadow Brook Club in Jericho on July 24. Gates opened at 8 a.m. and the feature event was a one day Pro-Am.
Golf Outing Raises $450,000 for Parkinson's Disease
On June 27, the National Parkinson Foundation (NPF) Northeast Region sponsored its first annual Golf Outing to benefit Beth Israel Medical Center's Alan and Barbara Mirken Department of Neurology. The event, held at Meadow Brook Club in Jericho honored Edwin A. Levy, an NPF trustee and investment analyst who was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in Nov. 1993. Outing co-chairs were Long Island residents Bob Greenberg and Gary Davis.
Syosset Youth Football
It is that time again football fans. Syosset Youth Football is a member of the Nassau/Suffolk Football League. The league is for children between the ages of five and 14. The teams are assembled based on age and weight. There are 5-6 year old teams, 7-8 year old teams, 9-10 year old teams, 11-12 year old teams and a 13-14 year old team. The season runs from Sept. 10 through the end of November. Football practices begin in August 2000. The registration fees are $125 for one child, $225 for two children and $275 for three or more children. It is not necessary to be a resident of Syosset to join - everyone is welcome.
